Financial function · cross-asset research
Credit infrastructure
Credit infrastructure connects funding with borrowers or earning assets and allocates liquidity, collateral and default risk. Deposits, managed assets, outstanding loans, cumulative originations and retained revenue describe different objects.
Why this function matters
The architectural question is who provides the credit backend, distribution, risk decisions and capital. The token question is whether retained economics or required balances reach the public token after lenders, distributors and operating costs.

Horizon contains real RWA-backed borrowing; JAAA had about $44.4M supplied with positions carrying RLUSD/GHO debt.
Not proven: broad diversified conventional institutional borrowing.
AAVE-HORIZON-RWA-CREDIT-01Accepted token thesis and primary bypass
Token thesis
AAVE’s economic bridge is weaker than the protocol franchise. Historical external buybacks were real but paused from 19 April through the forensic cutoff, with no verified restart. Purchased inventory remained DAO-controlled rather than permanently burned. Legacy staking still commits meaningful float, while Umbrella reduces its insurance role; future Aavenomics 3.0 is an unimplemented option.
Primary bypass
Credit, GHO and product economics can expand while retained resources fund operations, growth and recovery rather than AAVE acquisition. A discretionary buyback can pause precisely when the balance sheet is stressed.

multiple third-party interfaces use or distribute Morpho credit infrastructure while retaining their own customer relationships.

Token thesis
Morpho is a large operating credit network increasingly embedded beneath third-party financial brands. Ordinary lending, borrowing and vault use do not require MORPHO, and current direct holder revenue is effectively zero. Strategic token acquisition and network/governance proxy demand are separate channels from mandatory user economics.
Primary bypass
Morpho becomes a major embedded credit backend while lenders, distributors, curators, stablecoin issuers and interfaces capture most of the economics; ordinary users never need MORPHO; fee machinery remains inactive or is reinvested; and allocated token inventory continues entering circulation.

Maple reported roughly $4.77B AUM; independent telemetry showed roughly $3.0B contract TVL and $1.76B active loans. These are distinct denominators.
Not proven: that AUM is fully deployed into earning assets or that all measures should reconcile one-for-one.

Token thesis
Revenue-funded external SYRUP buying is real under temporary MIP-021, but acquired tokens stay in the Syrup Strategic Fund. They are not burned or proven permanently unavailable. Ordinary lending and syrupUSD use need no SYRUP. Organizational alignment reduces outside-equity leakage without creating a legal holder cash-flow right.
Primary bypass
Maple can grow its managed book and retain economics without mandatory SYRUP usage. Governance can let MIP-021 expire, divert revenue to operations or redeploy purchased SSF inventory. The aligned Foundation ecosystem narrows one private-equity bypass but does not make SYRUP equity.

August settlement showed the majority of current supply-side economics from major Prime books flowing back toward Sky Core.
Not proven: that all Agent economics accrue to Sky Core.

Token thesis
Current policy directs 22% of original Net Revenue into outside-market SKY purchases: 18% for staking rewards and 4% for purchase-and-burn. Actual market acquisition and permanent destruction are verified. This is a current capture system, but most purchased SKY can later be distributed and sold; holders have no fixed profit claim.
Primary bypass
The financial system can remain operating while lower yields, mobile funding, credit losses and reserve rebuilding divert surplus from SKY acquisition. Agents can retain some economics and governance can redirect the waterfall. Protocol survival therefore does not guarantee strong token economics.

System adoption, token capture and market exposure
Aave’s liquidity/risk franchise, Morpho’s embedded credit backend, Maple’s managed credit book and Sky’s savings-funded balance sheet have different business boundaries. Horizon borrowing, third-party distribution, outstanding manager loans and Prime settlement are not interchangeable evidence of the same activity.
Network use and current token capture diverge within this group. Ordinary Morpho and Maple use needs no native governance token. Morpho’s fee machinery does not establish current holder distributions. Maple’s temporary MIP-021 acquisition policy purchases SYRUP into retained SSF inventory, not burn. Aave’s historical purchases were paused at cutoff; Sky’s policy combines reward-directed acquisition with a smaller permanent-burn route.
Deposit or lending growth therefore cannot substitute for a capture mechanism, its current execution or its durability. Token financing, governance optionality and network-proxy expectations can support Market Transmission while remaining separate from retained operating economics. Concentrated borrowers, incentives, mobile funding and policy reversibility must remain visible alongside adoption.
Major bypasses and unresolved questions
Each case retains its accepted primary bypass in the expandable comparison above. These common questions test the same causal boundaries without asserting new answers.
- How much capital is actually lent or productively deployed, and which denominator is being reported?
- What survives lender yield, funding costs, losses and operating expenses as retained economics?
- Is token acquisition operating, paused or temporary; are acquired tokens burned or redistributable?
- Does distribution persist without incentives, and who bears liquidity, collateral and borrower concentration risk?
